This is the step from our old back porch that we are using as a make-shift step until we build nicer ones. It's a good example of the less-than-new condition the wood is in. It's not rotting, but it's not pretty.
It could definitely stand to be sanded down and re-stained. We left the step how it is since it's not a permanent fixture. But, Rob had this wonderful idea of what to do with the rest of it.
He had this vision of growing tall flowers as a border to the deck. He used the wood from our old porch to build this terraced planter. It was a really inexpensive project. We already had the miter saw, the drill, the screws, and the belt sander. We took a risk and picked out blue stain from Home Depot.
We wanted it to stand out as separate from the deck and add a bit of color to the yard. We didn't need much at all so we got away with two sample size stain containers for a total of $6.28. Not bad, huh?
I already had some seeds to plant in it. Slowly, but surely, they're starting to pop up. I'll try to remember to post an update when everything is in bloom!
